In amongst the many other trains and carriages displayed in the enormous Great Hall of NRM York is part of a Japanese Shinkansen train, the only one outside of Japan. Recently celebrating the 10th anniversary of its arrival the bullet train cab and carriage are accompanied by an exhibition of facts, models and artifacts linked to Japan's famous high-speed railway. Its presence in the collection consolidates a close link between the museum and Ōsaka's Modern Transportation Museum. The main draw of the exhibition is the chance to explore the interior of the carriage and relax in the seats while you watch a video about the train and its routes around Japan.

There are also daily talks about the Shinkansen at 10.30am and 2pm.
